Created 2026-10-02 • Updated 2026-10-021942 is a classic vertically scrolling shooter. Port of the MSX1 version. SYM key to toggle invincibility.
1942.COM is located on the B: drive in user area 1. To run this, look in the Internet Adapter or Headless menu and select Cloud CPM. After CPM loads and you are presented with an A:0> prompt, type the drive (B:), and then type the user area (user 1). If you type DIR, look for the COM file (1942.COM). Enter that filename at the prompt to execute 1942.
1942 on MSX1 is a 128KB ROM and the NABU only has 64KB of RAM but fortunately it didn't bank switch constantly, so it was practical to split up and stream data from the NABU adapter.
While reverse engineering for the port, I discovered the game has a cheat code CTRL+ZAP. This enables invincibility on MSX. I did a quick search and this doesn't seem to be documented. For NABU, that same cheat has been changed to the SYM key and unlike the MSX cheat, it can be toggled on and off. On NABU, a C will be displayed in the top left to show the cheat is enabled.
ZAP was the developer that made games for the ASCII publisher.
